Creative Seamless Gutter Fix for a Hard-to-Drain Flat Roof

This home in Macomb Illinois had a drainage issue that wasn’t easy to solve. Water was spilling over the side of the flat roof during storms — even with an existing downspout through the soffit.
Here’s what made it tricky:
The roof is technically flat, but it has a slight pitch — and the fascia where the overflow occurred isn’t a common spot for gutter installs. Because of that pitch, the new gutter may look unlevel — but it’s actually set almost perfectly level, with just enough slope to drain properly.
Rather than recommending an expensive roof redesign, we delivered a clean, cost-effective gutter installation solution:
✅ Installed a secondary gutter to catch overflow
✅ Tied it into the existing downspout running to a cistern (no extra foundation runoff)
✅ Used 3x4 downspout after the funnel to handle the volume
✅ Extended drip edge to make sure water goes into the gutter, not behind it
The result: Better protection for the deck, the fascia, and the foundation — without a major renovation.
